Getting Piggy Ready! Oct 2023
Our goal was to have animals in the spring, because we wanted to have everything perfect for them.
Buutt….while farming is many things, perfect is NOT one of them.
So we let ourselves be EXCITED about getting 🐖’s and focused on making sure we had the essentials: an organic Feed source, clean Bedding, Water access , a Secure Pen.
(Update 2024: we would NOT recommend purchasing this field drinker due to all the issues we have with it!)

Decades old 3-4" manure pack with random broken glass, nails, rotted wood and mice skeletons. But with a new wheelbarrow (a good one is a MUST!) and straight muscle we got it cleaned out! 😁

Post 2-day clean-out. We now have the start of a great compost pile out back! A nice solid concrete floor that we'll load LOTS of straw into for piggies. Bro Rob assisted in fixing rails that needed nailed and reinforced. 🛠🪚

We finished late night. Yes Farmer Karl wore a mask (N95 for both of us) and just took it off so you could see his handsome face for the photo. 😉

Arrived! Our pen/field pig 85gl waterer 😍. This sturdy waterer should (more like BETTER) last us many years here on the farm.

Lyndsey and Pa went and pick up the outdoor pig feeder from Roads End Farm. Then with the assistance of Ma & Karl, we were able to unload this wonderful beast! It doesn't fit through the door to their pen (my measuring bad ☹️) but will be essential in the pasture.

With the help of a farmer friend, we found some beautiful, golden, local straw for sale! It was spritzing the day of pick-up but Pa, Karl and I loaded up the trailer with 40bales and off to the farm we went! Piggies arrived later that day.
